Lifting of CAAS Suspension on Eagle Services Asia
(2 Oct 2000) At 5.00 pm on 26 September 2000, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) issued a notice to Eagle Services Asia Pte Ltd (ESA) to suspend its Singapore Airworthiness Requirement 145 approval after its inspection of the facility. The suspension meant that ESA will not be able to perform overhaul/rectification work on engines fitted on Singapore registered aircraft. ESA instituted immediate corrective actions with the assistance of SIA Engineering Company Limited to address CAAS’ findings. When the matter was resolved, CAAS lifted the suspension on 29 September 2000 at 4.00 pm.
SIA Engineering Company owns 49% of ESA and United Technologies Corporation (UTC), of which Pratt & Whitney (P&W) is a division, owns 51%. ESA repairs and overhauls P&W JT9D and PW4000 series engines, CFM56 series engines and various types of APUs. In the financial year 99/00, ESA accounted for less than 5% of SIA Engineering Company’s net income.
SIA Engineering Company and UTC/P&W will work closely with ESA Management to ensure that there will not be a recurrence.
